Weekly One | Sleep | Email #8
Each Sunday, I send the Daring Dyslexic community an email with actionable strategies to boost your child's confidence, mindset, and self-esteem. Join my supportive community and receive practical, step-by-step tools delivered straight to your inbox – because your child's success story starts with just one small action each week.
Following on from last week's email, I received a great question from a mum who asked, "What do you do to help your son sleep?" She explained how hard it is for her and her family daily, and I felt this: We've been there, too.
Sleep is an essential ingredient in the recipe for mindset, confidence, and self-esteem. You can not expect a child to feel optimistic about themselves or their abilities if they are not properly rested. Sleep truly is the basis of our well-being.
It's equally important to focus on the length of sleep as it is on the quality of sleep. So, if you have a child who shows signs of being dysregulated, tired, lethargic or excessively emotional, this is a great Weekly One to explore.
Sleep
Lack of quality sleep significantly impacts blood flow to the brain, memory recall and retention, to name a few. Now, if we look at our Daring Dyslexics, these are already challenging areas, which is why I believe sleep is our number one foundation.
If you think your child's sleep could improve, I encourage you to consider the following areas.
Room decor - is it overstimulating or distracting?
Room temperature: Science suggests cooler rooms are best, and many neurodivergent children opt for quite cold rooms for sleep.
Room light - is the room dark?
Room Use - is their room used for sleep only? Ie. No TV/gaming
Routine - does your child have a solid sleep routine to help with the production of sleep hormones?
These are a few great questions to consider. If you want to learn more about each and what I have implemented at home with success, please jump over and listen to this week's podcast on sleep habits here
I always love your questions and feedback, so please feel free to reach out.
You've got this!
